MINUTES ERA Board of Directors Meeting Wed., June 18, 2008 Start Time: 6:35 pm CDT Attendees: Jim Thomas, Tom Barrett, Joe Bradish, Daren Roggentien, Joe Davis, Dennis Jacinto, Mike Shroeder, Ronnie Charnes, Mike Dietrich, Kenny Turner, Ken Plourde, Dan Smith and Harald Kober. AGENDA 1). MEMBERSHIP AND NEWSLETTER REPORT Jerry Kieffer was unable to attend. He forwarded the following information; Bob Thomas and Tom Barrett are on board for writing the next newsletter. An article will be included promoting a new six month trial basis Tech-Help Hotline. The confusion with the Romaine check has been resolved. 2). TREASURER’S REPORT Chris Thompson was unable to attend to provide a Treasurer’s Report. 3). ERA BOOTH AT THE APRA SHOW IN NOVEMBER After much discussion on the pros and cons a motion was made by Mike Dietrich that the ERA not attend the APRA show in Las Vegas in November. Motion was seconded by Ken Plourde and the vote was unanimous to accept the motion. 4. TABLED AMENDMENT Informal discussion between Jim Thomas and an attorney was not conclusive on the issue of allowing foreign membership in the ERA. Therefore Jim Thomas will conduct further investigation and report his findings to the board in the future. 5). NEW BUSINESS a. Joe Davis advanced a request from a new Canadian member to discuss the possibility of a certification program for “ERA-approved” rebuilders for marketing purposes. Dan Smith and Ronnie Charnes talked about previous APRA attempts in this regard resulting in failure. Jim Thomas felt is was not really part of the ERA’s mission and he will compose a letter to the Canadian member to explain our position. b. Ken Plourde questioned whether the ERA should print posters of the ERA “green logo” for sale to the membership. c. Joe Davis was contacted by Bill Gager of the APRA regarding details of the November APRA show seminar. This will be discussed by the Technical Committee. d. Dan Smith talked to Polly Shea, who stated that if there is an ERA show next year it will be in Kansas City. No contract has been signed for Kansas City at this point. A new Holiday Inn has been constructed within walking distance of the exhibit hall. Polly can get rooms for $79 per night. Polly will poll suppliers to determine if she has enough support to finalize a show decision. She should have this information in approximately two months. e. Harald Kober entered the discussion at 7:37 pm CDT to state he had contacted the previous Canadian association and received a list of 12 names to contact regarding possible ERA membership. f. Dan Smith asked that the following two items be put on next month’s agenda: e Discussion of possible ERA/APRA merger. e If Polly Shea has a show in Kansas City, will the ERA support it as it has in the past. 6). ERA TECHNICAL HELP HOTLINE Mike Shroeder explained that the 800# for the hotline will cost $66.97 per month, which is approximately $804 per year. This cost is additional to the $.60 per minute to be charged by Bob Thomas as was voted on last month. Ronnie Charnes made a motion that the ERA spend $66.97 per month for a six month trial period regarding the hotline’s 800#. Joe Davis seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous to accept.
