A Petition for Action To Whom It May Concern: I am a small independent American businessperson. | have contributed to my community and the economy by rebuilding automotive and industrial starting motors and alternators. | have also contributed to the ecology of our nation by reclaiming and returning to service what would otherwise just add to our refuse problem. I have trained and worked with people who knew nothing about my industry and gave them an opportunity to support themselves and contribute to our great country. I now face catastrophic circumstances far beyond my control. Unfair trade policies have put me in a grossly unfair position. It is now impossible for me to compete. If cheap offshore product continues to come into the U.S. unrestrained or untariffed, it won’t be long before | will cease to be able to do business. This problem is certain and immediate. Our industry has served the marketplace nearly 60 years. Over 16,000 rebuilding businesses have been reduced to approximately 8,000 today. When professionally evaluated, my business no longer even has “goodwill” value. Current trade has relegated a once vibrant, high value small business into marketless scrap. We need federal involvement and intervention immediately. Under present circumstances our days are numbered.
