Implement Brush Holder Solutions By Richard R. Vensel We hear many comments regarding the CS130D brush | holders breaking. This is an unneces- sary waste of money and time. How can something as simple as this be a problem? Let’s take a look at it: – Some brush holders are over size and will never fit in an OEM-size SRE frame. This can be caught by measur- ing the top OD of the brush holder in the top area of contact with the SRE frame. – Do not try to install the brush holder until the stator and SRE frame are lined up and in place or the bear- ing will be out of alignment and will ei- ther break the brush holder or your installing tool. – You must only press on the out- side round area of the outside part of the brush holder. This is the part that holds your bearing OD. – Using an arbor press and the cor- rect tool is your best bet. Glass bead blasting these or any alternator brush holder can get you into trouble if your cleaning process is too aggressive. We suggest solvent or hot water cleaning only. When using hot water, make sure your soap is not too strong or it will attach to the brush holder material. Remember, anything you do that will change the internal di- mension of the brush holder will in- crease the risk of the brush cocking in the holder and sticking and then letting go. This could create that big bad spike that likes to kill internal alternator parts like diodes, regulators and, God for- give, the computer.
