The D.E. housing and reduction gear were also modified. This has created assembly problems when these parts are mixed between the two different designs. The starters are interchangeable as a complete assembly but care must be taken if the component parts are mixed during tear down and assembly. WAI is modifying the plastic retainer on all Ford PMGR drives to include the two flat areas.
