Cause: A potential cause for the above conditions is a manufacturing flaw in the routing of the positive battery cable for the alternator. During manufacturing the alternator cable may have been routed in close proximity to the high pressure power steering hose. The battery cable may chafe on the high pressure power steering hose resulting in a short circuit to ground. Correction: When performing any electrical work on the above vehicles inspect for the conditions noted and when applicable re-route the wiring as recommended by the manufacturer.
