Some vehicle operators may complain that when towing a camper or trailer the auxiliary battery for the camper/trailer becomes discharged. Cause: The above applications have a regulator that is designed to reduce fuel consumption by reducing the alternator set point through the vehicle’s computer. Correction: In “fuel economy mode’ the alternator set point will be between 12.6V and 13.1V. In “charge mode” the computer will cause the alternator to operate at 13.9 to 15.5V. Should the reduced voltage be causing any issues the vehicle operator can change to tow/haul mode when towing a trailer or the headlights can be turned on, which forces the system to charge at a higher voltage as well.
