fode ) TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: A-1473 A-1490 S-1418 Applications: 1996 Buick Skylark 3.1L (see VIN numbers affected below) 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva 3.1L (See VIN numbers affected below) 1996 Pontiac Grand Am 3.1L (see VIN numbers affected below) This bulletin applies to the above applications built in the Lansing plants with the VIN as identified in the table below: Location Vehicle Brand Up to and including VIN # Lansing (C) Plant Buick Up to TC427041 Lansing (C) Plant Pontiac Up to TC795324 Lansing (M) Plant Oldsmobile Up to TM325534 Lansing (M) Plant Pontiac Up to TM541636 Condition: The operator of the vehicle may complain of one or more of the following conditions: e No start/hard start e Low alternator output e No alternator output e Battery failure Cause: A possible cause for the above is a faulty battery positive cable between the alternator and battery. The rubber sleeve on the wire may have been pinched between the wire and the terminal or the terminal and alternator post and nut. Correction: Performing a voltage drop test as described in Tech Tip TSB-001 will identify if the cable is fault. Inspect the terminal, wire and rubber sleeve prior to replacing the entire cable.
