chiwia . & | [| { 8 | LD f TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: A-1366 S-1409 Applications: 1991 — 1995 Saturn SC 1991 — 1995 Saturn SL 1993 — 1995 Saturn SW Condition: The operator of the vehicle may experience one or more of the following conditions: e Ahard or long start. e A failure to start. e Adead battery. e A high alternator failure rate. Cause: There are two potential causes identified in this application: = A potential cause for the above conditions is improperly installed aftermarket electrical accessories with high quiescent or parasitic drains. = When supplied from the factory some models had faulty battery retainer plate parts that would allow the battery to break free and slide, possibly shorting out against various metal components. Correction: Verify that the battery retainer is in good condition and replace it with the upgraded kit, if required (Saturn part number 21023475). Check the system draw with the ignition in the off position for high current draw, anything over 30mA should be investigated. Check for accessories such as alarms and stereo’s that owners often install themselves and ensure the ignition and battery wires are connected and routed as per the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended procedures.
