fode ) TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: S-6263, S-6558 Applications: 2005-2006 Audi A6 Quattro V6 3.2L 2005-2006 Audi A6 Quattro V8 4.2L NOTE: Up to VIN number 4F_6N079104 Condition: The operator of the vehicle may complain that the engine does not start intermittently when the advanced key engine start button is pressed. The engine will start using the ignition key with the ignition switch (not the start button). Cause: The cause could be either a mechanical issue with the engine start button or an electrical issue with the engine stop button. Correction: To check the start button for mechanical issues perform the following test. e Press the start button in slowly. e There should be 2 distinct “clicks” the first is to activate power and the second to start the vehicle. e If the second click is not present the switch needs to be replaced following the manufacturers recommended procedures. If diagnostic code 02764 is observed then the engine stop button will require further diagnostics. The engine stop button has two micro switches that are both required with in 3 seconds of each other to disable the engine (as long as the vehicle is stationary). If the button is touched lightly, for example if something like a cellular phone or other item is resting against the button it will trigger the system to register an error making it inoperable. To correct this there are software updates for the system, verify that the system is level 180 or higher following the manufacturer’s recommended procedures.
