MINUTES ERA Board of Directors Meeting Wed., May 28.2008 Start Time: 6:33 pm CDT Attendees: Jim Thomas, Tom Barrett, Joe Bradish, Daren Roggentien, Joe Davis, Dennis Jacinto, Mike Shroeder, Ronnie Charnes, Mike Dietrich, Kenny Turner, Hank Henke, Bill Skillings, Chris Thompson, Ken Plourde, Dan Smith, Azam Rahamat AGENDA 1). TREASURER’S REPORT Chris Thompson reported that with all bills paid, the checking account balance was $23,640.53. Alan Melton is to be replaced as a signator to the checking account by current Executive VP Ken Plourde. 2). MEMBERSHIP REPORT Jerry Kieffer reported that as of May 28th there are 493 paid members including two new members added in May. The most recent news letter was sponsored by Romaine and payment confusion with the printing company will be handled by Jerry Kieffer. Chris Thompson of EMS volunteered to sponsor the upcoming newsletter. 3). TRAINING COMMITTEE REPORT Mike Schroeder gave the following details of the May Technical Committee Meeting. a). Main goals of the Technical Committee are; e Promotion of the remaining seminars that are scheduled e Development of a procedure for writing, reviewing and editing future technical articles. Technical articles will be posted on the Technical Forum for the committee to review and edit before they are printed. b). Wes Grueninger asked if the ERA wanted to put old Prestolite manuals onto PDF files for the website. The committee felt this could wait for the time being. c). Joe Davis’ proposal from Grand Rapids is to be discussed by the Executive Board. Joe Davis felt that ownership of his material was an issue that he had not come to terms with, and asked to remove his Grand Rapids proposal from the table at this time. He will continue to work on his training manual and plans to do seminars at the ERA trade show and the APRA show in 2009. Recently cancelled seminars at EMS and BAE may be rescheduled in 2009. d). Establishment of a Tech Help Hotline. Bob Thomas will man the hotline for $.60/minute on a 6-month trial period basis, based on minutes charged to an 800# to be established. Bob Thomas will ensure that callers are paid ERA members before answering technical questions. He will suggest payment and/or membership to callers who don’t meet either criteria. Hank Henke made a motion to establish a Tech Hotline for use by paid ERA members manned by Bob Thomas with compensation of $.60/minutes, as determined by minutes billed on the hotline by the phone company. This is to be reviewed in 6 months. Ronnie Charnes seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to accept. 4. TORONTO SEMINAR AND CANADIAN MEMBERSHIP REPORT Bill Skillings told of an extremely successful seminar with 120 in attendance. Bill Skillings and Joe Davis promoted the ERA at the seminar. Bill Skillings will follow up with attendees regarding joining the ERA. 5). OLD BUSINESS Chris Galbreath talked with Jim Thomas in Grand Rapids and suggested that world-wide ERA membership could be accomplished on a sponsorship basis. A prospective new non-North American member would be known and recommended by a current ERA member. Mike Schroeder felt this should be limited to rebuilders. Dan Smith made a motion that we open ERA membership to rebuilders world-wide on a sponsorship basis for a one-year trial period beginning June 1, 2008. The sponsor would be responsible for determining that the prospective member is a rebuilder and not a supplier. The ERA retains the right to bar from the website anyone who has misrepresented themselves. Membership is to be approved by the Membership Committee. Mike Dietrich seconded the motion. As the vote was taking place discussion focused on the potential legal issues regarding not allowing suppliers to become members.
