‘dixie verse gy TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: A-1738 A-6548 S-8997 TBA Applications: 2007 -2011 Chevrolet Silverado 6.6L Diesel Engine 2007 -2011 GMC Sierra 6.6L Diesel Engine Condition: The operator of the vehicle may complain of the message Service Charging System in diagnostic information center after starting the engine when cold. Oddly, the manufacturer defines cold as below 40C (yes +40C or 104F). The technician may observe diagnostic trouble code B1517 SYM-03 battery voltage below threshold stored in the system. Cause: A potential cause for the above conditions is that the electrical system demands may exceed the alternator output. Glow plugs draw up to 110A with cycle times up to 3 minutes and, when combined with other electrical loads, such as heated seats (or AC if the temperature is 40C), lights and audio/visual options, exceed the alternator output. Correction: There manufacturer has recognized this issue and does not have any recommended corrections other then to let the owner of the vehicle know of this condition.
