“dixie LD f TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: S-1430, S-1458 Applications: 2000 — 2001 Cadillac DeVille 2000 — 2001 Cadillac Eldorado 2000 — 2001 Cadillac Seville 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora (4.0 and 4.6L engines) Condition: | Some vehicle operators may complain of one or more of the following conditions: e Nostart e = Hard start e Unstable idle speed e Stalls on deceleration e The service engine light coming on. The technician may observe one or more of the following diagnostic trouble codes stored in the system P0335, P0336, P0385, P0386 or P1599. Cause: The crank sensor or powertrain control module may cause the above conditions. Correction: _ If the vehicle has error codes P0335, P0336, P0385 or P0386: e Inspect the crank sensor terminals for damage or corrosion. Test all 4 terminals. Inspect the crank sensor wired for damage/breaking or fatigue. Inspect the crank sensor connections at the PCM for damage or corrosion. Remove the sensor and check for contamination or debris build up. Verify the crank sensor location (A on top and B on the bottom). Check the crank sensor date code, if earlier then 0276 it is recommended that it be replaced and perform the appropriate learn process. e If the date is later then 0726 do a voltage drop test, paying attention to the ground circuit on the powertrain control module. A voltage drop of greater then 20 mV indicates a problem in this circuit. e If the powertrain control module passes the voltage drop test and all other tests have been performed follow the manufacturers recommended procedures for testing the powertrain control module. If the vehicle idles rough or stalls on deceleration and only has diagnostic trouble code P1599 then check the following: e The system power and power train control module for grounding (as instructed above). Verify the crank sensor positions (A on top and B on the bottom). Remove the sensor and check for contamination or debris build up. Verify that the fuel pressure regulator is not leaking around the diaphragm. Inspect that the fuel injectors have even pressure drops on each injector. Inspect and clean the exhaust-gas recirculation passages, if required. Inspect and clean the idle air control passages, if required.
