Condition: The operator of the vehicle may complain of belt squeal, the alternator charge warning lamp flashing on, or excessive belt wear and/or short belt life. Cause: The original factory belt was cloth backed, which trapped grit and road debris in it. The grit acted as a grinding compound and resulted in excessive wear of the idler/tensioner pulley and/or routing idler. Correction: Inspect the idler/tensioner pulley and routing pulley for the correct diameter. The nominal size is 76mm (2.19*) or 90mm (3.453”) depending on the application. If the pulley has worn to 74(2.839”) or 88(3.377”) respectively. The manufacturer recommends replacing the pulley and or the tensioner assembly.
