Tips, Tricks, and Getting on the Forums The Forums is a Web site within a Web site. Although the program was designed to be a stand-alone Web site, it has been incorporated into the ERA site to provide a fundamental communica- tions tool for sharing infor- mation. Don’t let the separate log in confuse you. The tools you’ll have at your dis- posal are more than worth the effort. First: After you’re safely logged in on the Web site, you’ll see your username in the upper left of the green bar at the top of the page. It will say, “You are logged in as (your username).” If you don’t see this you are not logged in. Log in using the log in box just below the like a pro! Forums for Dummies or How to Save Time and Money Using the ERA Web Site By Bob Thomas If you’ve joined the Electrical Rebuilder’s Association (ERA) and are already using the Web site, you’re one step ahead of everyone else reading this. If you’ve joined the ERA and haven’t been using the Forums, you’re missing the number one benefit of membership. The Forums average 30 new mes- sages per day. Most questions are answered within minutes of being posted. Tap into the experience of hun- dreds of other rebuilders. Save yourself from making costly rebuilding mistakes. The money you save will more than cover the cost of ERA membership! And if you haven’t joined the ERA yet, you might be interested to know you can test drive the Web site for 30 days at no charge, and join online at the end of the trial membership if you like what you find. Getting on the Web site First: The web address to the Web site is: www.electricalrebuilders.org Second: If you are an ERA mem- ber, you’re already in the database. If you don’t know your username/pass- word, go to the homepage (web address above) and click on the red type right under the log in box. The red type says, “ERA members that need username/password click here.” Fill out the request and submit it. Your request will be answered promptly, normally within hours, unless you send it in the middle of the night. Third: If you are not a member of the ERA, but would like to use the Web site for 30 days, go to the homepage, click on “Membership” on the menu on the left side of the page, and click on “30 Day Trial.’ Fill out the request form, and submit it. You’ll be notified by e-mail when the trial membership is approved, usually within hours. ERA banner. Second: After you are logged in on the main Web site, click on Forums on the green bar at the top. The first screen you’ll see is the instructions to register for the Forums. (Forums Page I screen shot) Please read the instructions carefully (or just use this guide). At the bottom are two buttons. Press the right button, “Continue to ERA Forums.” Third: You’ ll be taken to a vBulletin Message box. (Forums Page 2 screen shot) Do not try to log in here unless you have already completed the regis- tration process. At the bottom of the box, click on “Register.” Fourth: Now you’ll find yourself on the Forum Rules of Use page. (Forums Page 3 screen shot) Please read the tules. They’re pretty basic and should be easy to follow. Most of them fall under common courtesy. Check the box at the bottom that you agree, and click on the “Register” button at the very bottom. Fifth: Finally, you’ll be taken to the real registration page. Please use the same username and password you used to log in on the main Web site. Be sure to fill out the profile information. This will be your contact information should someone want to get in touch with you directly when you’re looking for a part, unit, or answer to a tech question. Don’t forget to push the “Submit Registration” button when youre finished. Sixth: Wait for the e-mail from the Forums (this may take a few hours) and click on the link on the e-mail to com- plete the process. About the Forums Once you reach the Forums Main Page (Forums Main Page screen shot) you’ll see there are 13 different forums divided into four basic categories. Here’s a short description of what you’ll find in each forum: Main Forums: Technical Help Forum—This is where rebuilders can ask technical questions about specific rebuilding prob- lems. (See Sample Forum Threads). Business & Industry News— You’ll find the latest news on this forum. This is where you’ll find news on events that affect your business.
