Delco’s 22SI Autostart Trio By Transpo Electronics Delco Remy America introduced a ‘black box’ design with a diode trio attached for their 22SI alternator, Delco part number 10487805. This black box is called the Autostart Trio and is used to turn on the alternator in one wire setups, without draining the battery(s). Numerous inquiries on the proper testing procedure of this com- ponent have been received. To cor- rectly test this component, all that is required is a digital voltmeter and a Transpo VCRIOIA voltage regulator tester. Follow the steps listed below. If any readings are incorrect, replace the module. Trio Test 1) Set the voltmeter to diode test. 2) Connect the black meter lead to the trio terminal and the red meter lead to stator 3 terminal. 3) Repeat the test for stator termi- nal 2 and 1. 4) The reading on the voltmeter should be approximately 0.535 volts. This reading may vary slightly but should be in this general range. Auto Start Module Test Use VCRIOIA tester to verify the Autostart Module function by perform- ing the following test: 1) Set the voltage range to 12 volts 2) Set field circuit to B 3) Connect black lead to B- termi- nal 4) Connect yellow (field) lead to trio terminal 5) Connect the white (stator) lead to stator 1 6) Connect red lead to B+ terminal Turn on the tester and indication will be high voltage (over 16.0 volts) and the field circuit lamp will be on.
