Intermittent starter kick-back may occur on every third or fourth attempt to start the engine on the 3.0L GM and 2.0L Mazda engines. If kick-back occurs on the 3.0L GM engine, it will break the nose cone on the starter. The Mazda engine is not experiencing the nose cone breakage but noise like the engine is dragging every third or fourth rotation of the flywheel may be experienced. The kick-back is caused by electrical system noise being picked up by the ignition distributor and in turn signaling the ignition module in the distributor to fire the spark plugs prematurely. By installing p/n 1465935 Delay Timer Kit, into the ignition circuit, will delay the firing to the coil and insure the flywheel is rotating before firing occurs. This kit contains a delay timer, connectors and installation instructions.
