chiwia . & | [| { 8 | anees / TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: S-1408 and S-1441 Applications: 1996 — 2000 Isuzu Hombre 4.3 V6 (TH) models Condition: The vehicle may exhibit one or more of the following conditions: Backfiring during cranking Kickback during cranking Failure to start Slow or hard starting Cracked or broken engine block at the starter boss Broken flywheel Cause: A possible cause for the above is that the crankshaft position sensor may send a command to add up to 50 degrees of spark advance during cranking (only during cranking). This creates extreme pressure and force on all of the starter components (the starter motor, the starter drive, the starter housing, the engine block where the starter mounts and the ring gear). Correction: Check the system for diagnostic trouble code P0338 using a scan tool This is a power train trouble code and will not cause the warning light to come on! If this code is present the crankshaft position sensor must be replaced (OE part number 8-10456-607-0). Any and all damaged parts must be replaced or repaired (starter motor, engine mounts and/or flywheel).
