The technician will observe aftermarket devices have been added to the system. Cause: A potential cause for the above conditions is improperly installed after- market accessories. When a solenoid or relay is switched off the collapsing magnetic field produces a voltage spike (also referred to as transient voltage). If aftermarket accessories are connected in any way to the run/crank circuit of the above vehicles erratic operation will result up to and including permanent damage of the vehicle’s sensitive electronic components. Correction: When installing any device containing a solenoid or relay the control circuit must have a suppression diode installed. Follow the manufacturers recommended procedures for installing aftermarket accessories. The manufacturer part number for the diode is 12112422. There are various locations, which the manufacturer has provided to connect aftermarket accessories and it is strongly recommended that these be used.
