Cause: A potential cause for the above conditions is an improperly routed battery cable. Due to the large number of variations in alternator/wiring configuration it has been reported that the battery cable may be chaffing on engine components, short circuiting to ground and potentially catching on fire. Correction: Inspect all wiring when working on the above applications, as it may not always be apparent that there is an issue with the wiring. Repair or replace the wiring as necessary and re-route the wiring to prevent chaffing.
