Cause: There may be several causes for the above condition, including but not limited to an out of date calibration file for the transmission control module, damage to the shift system linkage, damage to the shift system cables and/or damage to the gear selector detents. Correction: Follow the manufacturer’s recommended diagnostic and repair procedure, which, depending on the year may include reprogramming the transmission control module in addition to inspecting for out of tolerance/worn components (an operator would never shift harder to make the transmission go to the proper gear…).
