With Allison LCT1000 Transmission The operator of the vehicle may complain of one or more of the following intermittent conditions: There is a “clunk” sound when starting the engine with the transmission in park. There is a “clunk” sound when shifting into park from reverse or from park into any of the forward gears. If the brake pedal is held down, and the transmission shifted into park or into reverse, the sound becomes more frequent and repeatable. The cause is the internal transmission clutch drag, which is sufficient enough to load the output gearing resulting in the park gearing impacting on the park pawl and causing the clunk noise. This is considered a “normal” operating characteristic of the Allison LCT1000 transmission.
