chiwia . & | [| { 8 | LD f TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: A-2062, A-80056 Applications: 2003 — 2006 Ford Crown Victoria (Police Interceptor) Condition: Battery drains, dead battery, dimming headlights, flickering or charge warning light staying on. Cause: The original vehicle was supplied with a 135A alternator (Dixie number A-2062) this has been found to produce insufficient output, which resulted in drained or dead batteries. There was an original retrofit offered to address this (Dixie number A-80056) which needs to be performed with care or the alternator will not charge properly. Correction: Replacing the A-2062 with an A-80056 will increase the alternator output so that the battery can be maintained. The regulator harness adapter (reference number 50-09092) must be installed as the regulator connection pins are inverted from the A-2062 to the A-80056. The battery cable from the alternator to the battery must be changed to accommodate the higher amperage. As the higher output alternator performance is typically at a higher RPM the PCM will require updating with the latest calibration files, which will raise the idle speed.
