chiwia . & | [| { 8 | LD f TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: A-289 A-2044 A-2045 A-2046 A-80145 A-80146 S-2074 S-2100 $-2102 Applications: 2000 — 2006 Lincoln LS 2002 — 2005 Ford Thunderbird Condition: The operator of the vehicle may complain of one or more of the following conditions: e Vehicle not starting e Multiple alternator failures e Hard cranking Cause: A potential cause for the above conditions is excessive quiescent (parasitic) drain. Correction: Test for quiescent drain, take care when performing the test as there is a “stand-by” mode when the key is removed where the draw should be 850 mA or less. The “stand-by” mode lasts up to 45 minutes at which point the system powers down. In the powered down or sleep mode the quiescent draw should be 35mA or less. Please note that this is slightly higher then the standard 30 mA limit presented in the Dixie training seminars. lf the drain exceeds these limits look for after-market installed electronic components, if present disconnect them and perform the test again. Then diagnose for the source of the drain following the manufactures’ recommended procedures.
