A possible cause for the above conditions is that the factory provided starter and flywheel were not matched properly. If the vehicle was repaired in the past incorrectly this issue may still exist. When replacing the starter inspect the drive teeth and flywheel for damage before replacing the starter. If the flywheel is damaged replace it with Ford number YC3Z-6375-DA. Ensure that only S-8423 is used, Do not cross the OE number from the core as it may be the incorrect starter. If the wiring harness does not fit on the S-8423 or if it is damaged and/or corroded the Ford harness adapter 2C3Z-14300-CA must also be installed.
