LXE } TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: TG-50 TG-50L Applications: Various Agricultural and Industrial Applications Condition: |The technician may find the generator not charging. Cause: The generator, wiring or regulator may be the cause of the system not charging. This generator is for positive ground applications and is often improperly diagnosed as not functioning when other components in the system are not functioning properly. Correction: To test if the generator is functioning properly first completely disconnect the voltage regulator and remove the belt from the pulley on the generator. 1) POSITIVE GROUND SYSTEMS a) Connect the battery negative to the A (Armature) terminal, identified below and connect the F (Field) terminal to the vehicle ground. The generator should spin in a clockwise direction when viewed from the front. b) Install the belt on the generator and with the engine running connect the terminals as identified above. The system voltage should increase when connected in this manner without the regulator. If above tests do not work then the generator is not functioning properly. If they do then the regulator may require adjustment or replacing. 2) NEGATIVE GROUND SYSTEMS a) Connect the battery positive to the A (Armature) terminal, identified below and connect the F (Field) terminal to the vehicle ground. The generator should spin in a clockwise direction when viewed from the front. b) Install the belt on the generator and with the engine running connect the terminals as identified above. The system voltage should increase when connected in this manner without the regulator. If above tests do not work then the generator is not functioning properly. If they do then the regulator may require adjustment or replacing.
