1ode ) TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: S-80170 TBA Applications: 2004 — 2011 Mazda 3 with a VIN number lower then JM1BKxxxx xx848579 (produced before Nov. 1 2007) Condition: The operator of the vehicle may complain that the engine fails to start and that the gear selection indicator does not light up the “P” when the transmission is in park. When moved to “N” the engine does start. Cause: A possible cause for the above condition is rust on the connecting point between the shifting cable and the lock cable lever resulting in the selection lever not moving to the appropriate location for the sensor to read the park position. According to the manufacturer this only affects the sensor when the vehicle is in park. Correction: Follow the manufacturer’s recommended procedures for inspecting the lock cable lever for rust and replacing it wnen necessary with a new one (also replace the nut and washer). The manufacturer’s part numbers are as follows: Description Part Number Lock cable lever B2YE-46-310 Nut 99922-1400 Washer 99971-1400 One piece of each is required.
