LEXIE } TECH TIPS Dixie Part Numbers: TBA Applications: 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV Conditions: The operator of the vehicle may complain that the vehicle can not be started and has a discharged 12V battery. The technician may observe that the vehicle can not be boosted (jump started). Cause: The vehicle is equipped with built in self checks to protect the battery state of charge, for example of a door is not shut properly and the dome light is on, it will time itself out to ensure the battery is not discharged. These features do not override manual adjustments performed by the operator. If the dome light is manually turned on it will not turn off until the battery has been discharged or until the light is manually switched back off. Normally if the battery is low the vehicle may be jump started. However, to protect the charging system, if the battery voltage drops below 9V the vehicle will not start, even with a boost, until the battery has been properly recharged. Correction: Follow the manufacturer’s recommended recharging and maintenance procedures for the 12V battery system and ensure that the operator of the vehicle understands the system protection logic.
